Israeli Armored Forces Push into Syrian Town

(MENAFN) Israeli armored forces pushed into Syrian sovereign territory Sunday morning, marking the newest breach in a surge of cross-border operations that have escalated dramatically since December 2024.

A convoy of five military vehicles penetrated the town of Saida al-Golan in southern Quneitra during early morning hours before withdrawing, a Syrian news agency confirmed. Separate Israeli units also conducted operations on the periphery of Ma'riya village in western Daraa province, the state outlet reported.

The incursions represent an intensifying pattern of Israeli military activity in Quneitra, where residents report Tel Aviv's forces advancing onto agricultural lands while simultaneously decimating vast forest areas, detaining civilians, and installing military checkpoints throughout the region.

Official Syrian records reveal a staggering scale of Israeli military operations: more than 1,000 aerial bombardments and over 400 ground incursions into southern Syrian provinces since December 2024 alone.

Following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's government in late 2024, Israel moved to expand its territorial control over the Syrian Golan Heights, annexing the demilitarized buffer zone—a direct contravention of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement negotiated between the two nations.
